On my first trip to Hawaii to visit relatives, I was told that beach glass was "mermaid tears," and this inspired my very first poem (which I still have in possession and can't bring myself to share!) How great would it be to walk on Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, where you can grab handful upon handful of mermaid tears? My mom and step-dad are visiting Mendocino next week for the Abalone Festival, and I am envious. One of these days (when the kids are a little bit older) we will join them on their annual excursion to the Northern California coastline.
