"Books are humanity in print."—Barbara W. Tuchman. I don't think anyone could better understand this than Chuck Valverde. He was certainly the highlight of any trip to Wahrenbrock's Book House in downtown San Diego. Some of the best times with my Grandpa were spent in this 3 story used book store wandering the maze of floor to ceiling shelves. There was not a time I listened to my Grandpa and Chuck converse when it didn't seem like Chuck must have read every book in the house. Though his demeanor was simply modest and straightforward, he was a wealth of knowledge. I don't like imagining what things will be like from here on out, because even though life goes on, San Diego won't ever be the same without him.
